About fragLANd

Many years ago, a small company based out of Dallas wrote this game. They released it as shareware, went to bed, and the world changed. The company was ID. The game was Doom. The world was Deathmatch.

fragLANd started life as a group of friends who got together on odd weekends to play Doom. Starting off in people’s houses, the true spirit of the LAN was born. As time got on, more and more people wanted to join, the games got better, and so people’s houses filled up quickly. A proper venue was needed. One was found, and fragLANd was born.

fragLANd is not a commercial venture, unlike other LAN Parties you might have heard of, or even visited yourself. We stick to our roots of basically being a bunch of like-minded people, who enjoy getting together for a weekend, and fragging, racing, destroying each other and generally causing mayhem (in the virtual sense, of course).

Our LAN Parties are informal affairs, we laugh, we joke, we shout abuse at each other, we even have a mailing list for some inter-LANage banter. And of course, there is the all important ‘Saturday Night Curry’ where all attendees are invited for a meal, and a good chat, away from railguns and rocket launchers, to really get to know the person who you just owned.

Sound like fun? You bet it is!

For information on the next LAN Party, consult the cunningly-titled ‘LAN Party’ link to the left, or email Dwarf (aka ‘The Head Honcho’).

Frequently Asked Questions:

Hang on.. fragLANd.co.uk, fragLANd.com, Fragland.net – what’s going on?
Both fragLANd.co.uk and fragLANd.com are owned and maintained by us, as a web presence for ourselves. The similarly-titled Fragland.net is actually a Belgian-based gaming news site. Apart from our shared love of games, we are not related. Strangely enough, both of us have been using the name for just about as long, too.

What games can I expect to play at your LAN?
Well, pretty much, if it’s got multiplayer, we are playing it! Currently big games we’ve been playing a lot of are Quake 4, Unreal Tournament 2004, Battlefield 2, Half Life 2 and more!

But it’s not all first-person fragging. driving games like Motorhead are always good (Dwarf has been trying to arrange a big endurance race in GTR2 or rFactor), and we have a sizeable following for Command & Conquer Generals. If you like playing a game that isn’t listed here, bring it along! If it’s got multiplayer, we’ll have a go at playing it.

How long do you play for?
The festivities start on Friday night, usually between 7 and 8PM. We then have the venue right up until Sunday evening, so it’s play until you drop (although some of the more ‘senior’ fragLANders seem to be dropping earlier and earlier these days).

Where are you based?
Pretty much slap bang in the middle of the country. Wootton Village is near the town of Bedford, and is easily accessable from both the M1 (Junction 13) and the A1 (Black Cat Roundabout). Further information and directions are available on the LAN Party link to the left.

How many people do you usually get turning up?
It ranges from event to event, but is usually between 25-35 players. Just the right amount for a good game of Capture The Flag!

How much does it cost?
The whole weekend costs a mere 18 pounds sterling (obviously any food and drink you consume during your stay costs extra).

What should I bring?
Your PC (duh), yourself, money for food and drink, or food and drink for yourself, a sleeping bag (in case you feel like sleeping), washing materials and deodorant (it gets quite close in the room after 48 hours of LANing) and of course, your toothbrush.

Wow, you guys are really nice. Have a drink on me.
Thanks very much.
